Gerunds and infinitives
V-ing или to + V: после глагола, после предлога, глаголы с разным значением.
Глаголы, требующие V-ing
enjoy, avoid, finish, mind, suggest, consider, keep, practise, deny, give up, look forward to: I enjoy reading.
После предлога всегда V-ing: interested in learning, good at drawing, before leaving. Внимание: look forward to seeing — здесь to является предлогом.
Глаголы, требующие to + V
want, decide, hope, plan, agree, refuse, promise, manage, afford, learn, would like: She decided to study abroad. В значении цели: I came to help.
После прилагательного: easy to understand, happy to see.
make, let — без to
make / let + лицо + V: My parents let me go.
Глаголы, меняющие значение
- stop doing — прекратить; stop to do — остановиться, чтобы что-то сделать;
- remember doing — помнить, что сделал; remember to do — не забыть сделать;
- try doing — попробовать; try to do — постараться (трудно).
Частая ошибка
I look forward to see you — неверно; нужно seeing.
