Reported speech
Косвенная речь: сдвиг времён, вопросы и просьбы, reporting verbs.
Время на шаг назад
Если вводящий глагол стоит в прошедшем времени (said, told), время обычно сдвигается:
- Present Simple → Past Simple: «I like tea» → She said she liked tea.
- Present Continuous → Past Continuous;
- Past Simple / Present Perfect → Past Perfect;
- will → would, can → could, must → had to.
Меняются и слова места и времени: now → then, today → that day, tomorrow → the next day, yesterday → the day before, here → there.
Неизменная истина может не сдвигаться: He said the Earth goes round the Sun.
say и tell
say (that)… — без указания лица; tell somebody (that)… — указано, кому сказали: She told me that…
Вопросы и просьбы
В вопросе порядок слов как в утвердительном предложении: «Where do you live?» → He asked where I lived. В общем вопросе (да/нет) — if / whether.
Просьба или приказ — told / asked + somebody + (not) to + V: «Don’t be late!» → She told us not to be late.
Частая ошибка
Сохранять вопросительный порядок слов: He asked where did I live — неверно.
